Puerto Vallarta
The town of Puerto Vallarta is situated at the bottom of the mountains, almost midway from point to point of the Bahia de Banderas. Here is the heart of the area. Stretching out along the Bay of Banderas to the north is the hotel zone, the marina area and then, crossing a state line and a time zone is Nuevo Vallarta.
To the south of the city is the romantic zone, with Los Muertos, further south is Conchas Chinas and Mismaloya. Beyond Boca de Tomatlan are many seaside villages only accessible by water taxi or tour boat. These quaint, quiet villages make an excellent day trip from many water taxi departure points in Puerto Vallarta. Inland, you have multiple choices of small towns to explore either by bus, taxi or rental car.
